You can’t swing a stick nowadays without hitting a racist police officer just waiting to beat, taze, or shoot the first unarmed minority kid they see. Actually that’s not true at all. Anybody with a middle school education and a willingness to see the truth through all the media lies can plainly see that police officers are here to help us. Yes, of course there are the extremely rare racist and corrupt officers, but they are such a small percentage, I will not accept them as a representation of the police force as whole.
I have two thoughts on this subject that I hope will clear some things up, or at the very least let you know where I stand.
1) I hear a lot about how some police forces are racially mis-representative of the community they serve, meaning that if a community is mostly African-American and the police force is mostly Caucasian, then the police force must be racist because they don’t represent the people they have sworn to protect and serve. This is a fallacy because the only thing that needs to happen to fix this is for more of those who do represent the community to join the force. Don’t you think that a police commissioner or a mayor wants it’s police force to be just as racially diverse as those whom they serve?
2) There are a lot of people that want to get rid of all those terrible racist cops. Who can possibly disagree with that, right? Who want’s a bunch of evil racists going around arresting people who are committing crimes. There’s problem with a blanket statement like “get rid of the racist cops”. That’s like saying get rid of the law breakers. How do you know which cops are racist, until they do something that’s racist. It’s not like there’s a yes or no box on the police academy application that asks “Are you a racist.” Therefore, we have to let the legal system do it’s job. If someone hasn’t committed a crime, they are not a criminal. It use to be in this country that a person is innocent until proven guilty, and even though that’s what our constitution guarantees, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
Let’s stop acting like entitled brats and start BEING mature adults. Let’s get back to personal responsibility and treating our neighbor (regardless of race, religion, gender, etc.) with some respect.
